Building a Legacy of Trust From the Very Beginning

The character of a company is usually established in its earliest years. So it is no surprise that the desire to genuinely bring expertise to the table, to solve real-world problems, and to get real-world results has been in the Duncan DNA from the beginning.

  • 1978

    The company that is now Duncan Financial Group, LLC was started by John (Jack) M. Duncan, Sr. The company’s original location was in downtown Irwin. The business began as the Duncan Insurance Agency and had four employees.
  • 1980

    David S. Duncan (Jack’s oldest son) joins the company.
  • 1983

    David, John M. Duncan Sr.’s oldest son, expands the services of the company by offering securities and financial planning services. John M. Duncan, Jr. joins the company as a property and casualty producer.
  • 1984

    Due to rapid growth, the company moves its operation to a larger office located at 370 Maus Drive in North Huntingdon, PA. The company continues to grow through the acquisition of smaller insurance agencies and the expansion of services.
  • 1986

    Tax preparation and planning services are added through the formation of Duncan Capital Management, Inc. (now operating as Duncan Accounting & Tax Services, Inc.).
  • 1987

    Retirement plan investment management, 401(k)/Pension/Profit sharing administrative services and other TPA functions are added to the company’s expanding base of services.
  • 1990

    Wealth Preservation & Management, Inc. is started by David Duncan as a “wholesale” financial services operation to assist other financial professionals. Today this operation assists over 175 registered representatives and agents in 25 states.
  • 1992

    Duncan Insurance Agency purchases the Koury Agency located in Irwin, PA.
  • 1996

    An affiliation with Keystone Insurers Group (KIG), a prestigious, multistate network of independent agencies, is established. Duncan Insurance Agency, Craft, Kellogg & Patterson and Laukus & Diffenderfer merge to become the Duncan Insurance Group, Inc.
  • 1997

    Regrettably, Jack Duncan passes away. However, due to appropriate succession planning, his sons David and John continue to grow the business.
  • 1999

    Jack Valentine & Company, a full service tax and accounting firm, is acquired.
  • 2000

    Reagan-Schuyler, LLC, a Philadelphia-based insurance and financial services firm, is acquired. Because of the company’s continued growth, a second North Huntingdon location is added. The Financial Services operation is moved to the Camry Building on Route 30 in North Huntingdon, PA. In addition, all related companies are brought together under the holding company: Duncan Financial Group, LLC.
  • 2006

    Duncan Financial Group, LLC expands its wholesale brokerage operation by acquiring Atlantic Financial Group in Richmond VA.
  • 2007

    Duncan Financial Group, LLC again expands its wholesale brokerage operation by acquiring Benefit Design Group in Asheville, NC.
  • 2009

    All Pennsylvania operations of Duncan Financial Group move to a new location in downtown Irwin, where the company originally started.
  • 2011

    Duncan Financial Group joins Cambridge Investment Research, a leading independent broker/dealer, to expand the breadth of its financial services offering.
  • 2013

    Duncan Financial Group opens its first West Coast office in Newport Beach, CA, hiring Larry Qvistgaard, who later becomes President of Duncan Advisor Resources.
  • 2016

    Duncan Financial Group rebrands the firm with a new logo and brandline: “Making It All Work Together.”
  • Today

    Still locally owned and independently operated, Duncan Financial Group maintains its focus on being a leader in providing superior insurance and financial services and solutions to its diverse client base.

Larry Qvistgaard is the President and Chief Operations Officer for Duncan Advisor Resources. He is responsible for the overall operations, supervision, and field development of the advisors affiliated with our branch office.

Larry is a knowledgeable and experienced provider of sales, service, and support to financial advisors. He spent the bunk of his career as a senior executive for a mid-sized national independent broker/dealer, which he co-founded. For over 25 years, Larry has helped financial advisors grow their businesses through innovative sales and marketing strategies. Larry is a Registered Principal and Investment Advisor Representative with Cambridge Investment Research and Cambridge Investment Research Advisors respectively. He holds the FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 65 licenses, along with California state life and health insurance licenses. He is also an active member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA).

Edward E. Kavo has been with Duncan Financial Group since August, 2010. Ed specializes in Personal Wealth Management, Retirement Services, and Employee Benefits. He has been in Financial Services since 1977, when he began his career with Travelers Insurance Company, in the Pittsburgh office. His various positions with Travelers took him to Columbus, Ohio and Hartford, Ct, before returning to Pittsburgh in a managerial capacity.

Ed left Travelers in 1992 to pursue his goal to work directly with clients in helping them achieve their financial goals. At Three Rivers Financial Services Ed worked with individuals, but with business owners to develop well thought out plans for retirement, employee benefits and business continuation plans.

In 2010 he joined DFG to again work with clients directly and also act a Securities Branch Manager. Ed continues to help businesses and individuals to achieve their goals in the areas of his expertise, Individual and retirement planning, business continuation and employee benefits.

Ed and his wife, Donna, live in Upper St, Clair and have 2 grown children. Both have been involved in various community and charitable activities.

Catherine Lavoie grew up in Maine while being active in the JROTC and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Secondary Education. While in college, she worked two jobs – one of which was at a call center. After moving to Pennsylvania to assist her grandparents in their senior years, she sought similar work and found an entry-level job taking life insurance applications.

She became fascinated with the insurance industry, and began to soak up as much education as possible; within a year, she had earned a life/accident/health producer’s license, and had become series 6, and series 63 certified. Discovering a passion for the securities field, she then obtained the series 7 and series 24 certifications to become a compliance specialist. At Duncan Advisor Resources, her focus is channeled into risk analysis, supervising sales professionals to see that their transactions continue to meet the suitability standards of the industry’s regulatory authorities.

Catherine lives in North Huntingdon, and her off-hours are often spent exploring the culinary arts and pushing towards new physical fitness goals. Never forgetting her humble beginnings, she applies her athleticism to fundraising by participating in charity 5k events, but most values her involvement in food drives throughout the year and giving trees during the holiday season.

Brian is CEO of Duncan Advisor Resources. Brian works with clients and businesses to design strategies that accumulate, protect and ultimately transfer their wealth. He is responsible for all the securities operations related to the firm and primarily interfaces with the firms’ broker/dealer, Cambridge Investment Research, on all facets of risk management, compliance and supervision. A majority of his time is spent in the Duncan Advisor Resources Life BGA working with outside agents to create sales opportunities with their clients.

The mission of Duncan Advisor Resources is to provide stellar service, the most competitive and cutting-edge carriers and products available, and industry-leading underwriting that is centered on agent and client advocacy.

Brian received a B.S. in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He received his Masters of Business Administration from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. Brian holds the Series 7 Securities License, along with the Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Life Underwriter Credentials.

Brian is a member of NAILBA, the Risk Appraisal Forum, and participates in multiple carrier advisory councils.

Alan has spent his entire working career in the insurance industry. Over the past 4 decades, he has served as a recruiter, trainer, mentor, and agency builder throughout the country. His expertise comes from 35 years of building such relationships in Property and Casualty firms, and hiring and placing over 100 agents in that timespan.

Throughout his career, he has lead teams of agents to top forum production, and spoke at agent conventions in Hawaii, Spain, and Orlando, even attending the Harvard Business School conclave in Upstate New York.

Alan is the proud father of Ross and Linden and father in law of Alyssa.He is lucky to spend his home life today with loving and supportive wife, Robyn, currently residing in South Florida.

Bill is a consummate life insurance professional. He has been in the brokerage business for over 31 years, in both new business, underwriting, managerial and sales roles. For the last 25 years, he has been a trusted resource for agent and brokers; helping producers open, develop, and close some of the largest cases of their careers. Bill would say his satisfaction in his career comes from encouraging, teaching and helping people understand why life insurance is an important element in any financial plan.

He attended and graduated from Susquehanna University in Selingsgrove, PA with a double major in management and finance. Since then, he ha been very active in the industy, rising to President of the CLU Chapter years back and offering his time to help other in the industy. Bill has two sons. Bill is very active in his church and enjoys anything outdoors, especially running. biking and hiking.

Robb joined the company in 2013 to focus on the life insurance aspect of the BGA. He provides concierge-level service, specializing in creative case consultation and policy audit capability, that integrate life insurance into an overall financial plan.

Robb earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association, teaches Sunday School at Centenary United Methodist Church. Additionally, he volunteers for the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Recruiting Team and coaches youth sports. Robb married the best referral he ever received, his wife, Kate. He and Kate have two sons and they enjoy participating in outdoor activities as a family.

Throughout his time in the industry, he has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designations. Ted graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH, with a B.S. in finance, and today, Ted and his wife Kim have two grown sons They reside in the Village of Mariemont, outside the city of Cincinnati, OH. He enjoys training for triathlons and traveling to see his sons in San Francisco and Atlanta.

Marc joined Duncan Advisor Resources in the Fall of 2016 as the Managing Director of the Midwest Region for the Life Brokerage Division. He is a resource to the distribution partners and agencies, charged with supporting the growth of their life insurance and financial services business. His expertise, knowledge, and approach is a valuable asset to the company and clientele, allowing Duncan Advisor Resources to provide comprehensive planning and protection strategies to more agencies and clients.

Marc and his wife, Rhonda, live in Vernon Hills, IL and they have a son Matthew. When not spending time with his family, Marc spends his time volunteering, serving on the Board of Directors for local Autism Awareness organizations

Frank has been in the industry for over 30 years and has been a member of the Duncan Advisor Resources team since 2016. He works with agencies and their agents across the region to bring them case design strategies, business planning solutions, product knowledge, and estate planning solutions for their client’s needs. He holds FINRA Series 6, 63, 66 and Series 7, and is licensed in several states to conduct business and provide advice and services.

In his leisure time, Mr. Zoracki enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and their dog. They enjoy traveling, and participating and spectating in their daughter’s activities. He is an avid golfer, and supports and participates in numerous charity outings, and occasionally finds some time to relax and take it all in.

Christy joined Duncan Financial Group, in March of 2014. She brings 18 years of financial services industry experience to the organization. She spent 14 years in retail banking acquiring a diverse background of roles including branch management and team lead for acquisition transition teams. Her experience in both operations management and as a sales professional, provide the perfect balance for achieving strategic operational objectives while meeting the needs of our sales professionals and ensuring superior client experiences.

Christy currently holds FINRA Series 7, Series 66, and a Life and Health license. She graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Mathematics from California University of Pennsylvania and received her Master of Business Administration from Seton Hill University in 2013.

Christy currently resides in Mount Pleasant, PA with her husband, Rick. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her Boxer mix, Yulia, and traveling to visit friends and family.

Eric joined the company in October 2017. He has worked in various aspects of the insurance industry for the past 6 years. Eric provides a concierge service to life insurance agents by obtaining information on life policies, as well as giving excep-tional and friendly customer service.

Prior to joining Duncan Advisor Resources, Eric worked with multiple companies dealing with Workers’ Compensation and health insurance. Eric obtained his undergraduate degree from Edinboro University in Edinboro,PA. He is also an active member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. Eric is married to Rachele, and they have a magnificent baby boy named Jacob. They enjoy watching movies and rooting on their favorite sports team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Amy Glenn grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. Immediately after graduating from high school, she went to work at an attorney’s office in Youngstown, where she worked for 12 years. She started her career as a receptionist, and later became an assistant in the legal department.

Amy joined the Duncan Advisor Resources team in 2015, as a Brokerage Assistant and quickly advanced to the Licensing and Contracting Coordinator. Today, Amy lives in Monroeville, PA with her rescue Chihuahua, Emily. Amy enjoys exploring and experiencing the many neighborhoods and cultures of Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities

. To satisfy her need for adventure, Amy has gone skydiving, zip lining, and she has even participated in several Polar Bear Plunges. Her bucket list includes: bungee jumping and swimming with sharks. On the weekends, you will find Amy and Emily outside enjoying one of the many parks, festivals, outdoor markets, or concerts that the city has to offer. They enjoy their regular trip back to Ohio and spending time with family. Most of all, they love visiting Amy’s sister, Christie, and her nephew, Aaron.

Sam grew up in Waynesburg. After high school, Sam attended the University of Valley Forge and graduated with a B.A in pastoral ministry. While attending college, he was active in Urban Outreach and the Philadelphia Homeless Ministry. After recieving his undergraduate degree, Sam attended Liberty University, where he earned a Master of Business Administration.

Sam’s primary background is developing, implementing, and overseeing the Operational Compliance Audit and Remediation division of a national scale default law firm.

Sam and his wife, Melanie, live in Greensburg, PA and they have 2 children, Amelia and Titus. Sam especially loves the time he spends with his wife and children. His other interests consist of strategy and role playing games, writing novels/comics, and making people smile. Although he is from Pennsylvania, Sam is a proud and avid fan of the Tennessee Titans.

April grew up in West Mifflin, PA and she attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, graduating with a B.S. in business management. During her time in college, she began working at her first brokerage firm. In 1994, she transitioned to Merrill Lynch, where she would remain for the next 13 years. In 2008, she returned to the life brokerage, where she remained until December 2015 when she joined to Duncan Advisor Resources Group. April is insurance licensed and also has her Series 6 & 63, Registered Paraplanner, and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designations.

April and her husband got married in 1993 and they has two children. When she is not at the office, enjoys living on her 8.5 acres, raising chickens. She says she has even incubated eggs and hatched chicks herself.

Becky has been working for the BGA as a case manager for more than 10 years. She holds both life/health and long-term care licenses, and brings 20-plus years experience to her job.

Becky was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina and chose that area to raise her family. She is currently an “empty-nester” and resides in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband and best pal, Mark, and rescue dog, Bodhi. Mark stays busy working as a consultant and family counselor, operating his own practice in Asheville. In her spare time, Becky enjoys all things outdoors, walking Bodhi, spending time with her kids, cooking, and traveling, especially to warm and tropical locales.

Dawn grew up in Regent Square and she graduated from Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA with a bachelor’s degree in speech communications. During her time in college, she was an active member in Speech Club, as well as her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. Dawn has been in the business and financial industry for over nineteen years. Before coming to Duncan Advisor Resources in 2015, She worked at a large life mutual company and then transitioned to a brokerage general agency. During this time, she obtained her Pennsylvania life, accident and health license.

Dawn and her husband Dan reside in North Huntingdon, PA. They have one daughter. While Dawn’s favorite pastime is spending the day with her family, she does enjoy other activities, such as reading, going to the gym and getting together with friends. Dawn is also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

Geonette grew up in Lawrenceville in the city of Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the Community College of Allegheny County with a degree in business administration and management. Since that time, she has obtained her life and health insurance license and has been providing customer service for over 20 years, which includes 9 years with a business marketing firm for insurance agents and financial professionals. She also has close to 12 years of experience as a case manager for a general agency.

Geonette’s favorite past time is spending the day with her husband and Siberian Husky Knute. However, she also enjoys other outside interests, such as attending themany events her 11 nieces or nephews. When not spending time with their nieces and nephews, Geonette and Bob go to their recreational getaway in Bedford County. There, they enjoy spending their weekends there relaxing and taking advantage of the many outdoor activities that rural area has to offer.

Jon joined Duncan Advisor Resources as Brokerage Facilitator for the BGA in the Fall of 2015. The role allows him to combine his 14 years of experience in life insurance underwriting, case design, and case management into one hybrid role that provides troubleshooting and support for our agents across a broad swath of the life insurance process. Jon considers it his mission to ensure that our clients receive the best possible underwriting results while pursuing coverage that best suits their needs.

Samantha grew up in Warrenton, Virginia, a small town in Fauquier County. She graduated from Longwood University in Farmville, VA, with a B.S. While at Long-wood, she was an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She started her career at a large life mutual company as an Associate Financial Representative, where she earned her Virginia Insurance license. She joined Duncan Advisor Resources in October 2013, as an Underwriting Specialist. In 2015, she completed the Swiss Re-Underwriting Program.

Samantha and her husband reside in Richmond, VA. They have a Goldendoodle named Callaway. While Samantha’s favorite pastime is spending time with Sean, her family, and friends; she also enjoys being a makeup artist, shopping, and stay-ing active. Sean stays busy being an Account Manager at Insight Global.
